CJZSA Welcomes Respected Senior Members — A Heartwarming Reunion of Choir Founders
On April 23, 2025, in the blooming warmth of spring, the Calgary Jiang Zhe Shanghai Association (CJZSA) welcomed a very special group of guests — our respected senior members born in the 1930s and 1940s. These venerable elders were founding members of the association’s choir and have been long-standing supporters of our community. The gathering was not only a touching reunion but also a beautiful revisiting of cherished memories.
Inspiring Spirit at 91
Among the guests of honor was Mr. Zhang Yinghong, one of the choir’s founders. At the remarkable age of 91, Mr. Zhang remains full of vitality and wisdom. He was accompanied by his wife, Ms. Fang Guozhen — together, they have shared a life immersed in music and community service, leaving a lasting legacy.
Also present were many esteemed teachers and contributors, including Zhang Lihua, Wang Jingyuan, Cui Xijun, Yang Bo, Long Yun, Mei Xiaofang, Xu Qing, Zhou Yuzhen, Wang Peili, and others. Their presence embodied the spirit of dedication and cultural heritage in our community.
Tea and Memories
The reunion began at 11 a.m. at the luxurious Dragon Palace in Chinatown, where everyone gathered over tea to reconnect and reminisce. The atmosphere was filled with joyful laughter as old friends shared stories from the past, reviving memories of their years on stage and in harmony.
A New Chapter in the Clubhouse
In the afternoon, the group visited the new CJZSA clubhouse. Spacious and well-lit, the venue received praise for its clean and welcoming environment. The highlight was a brand-new Yamaha piano, which caught the elders’ eyes and drew heartfelt compliments.
Heartfelt Donations
The moment turned even more touching when Mr. Zhang generously donated $100 on the spot to support the association’s growth. Inspired by his gesture, teachers Yang Bo, Long Yun, and Zhou Yuzhen each contributed $100 as well. Their loving support deeply moved all present, symbolizing the strength and continuity of the community spirit.
Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future
This special gathering was more than just a reunion — it was a tribute to the past and a beacon for the future. CJZSA members will carry forward the legacy of our elders, continuing to honor and care for our senior community members, and ensuring the music of our culture continues to resonate through generations.
